Nadia came to immigration law the long way around: her parents arrived in Canada with two suitcases and a filing error that took three years to untangle. She has spent her career making sure other families never lose years to paperwork nobody explained.

Omar's practice is the arrivals hall: spouses, children, parents, and grandparents. He has shepherded hundreds of sponsorship files and still keeps every airport reunion photo clients send him — with their permission, a few hang in the office kitchen.

Mei-Ling is the firm's document conscience. Before joining Harbourlight she spent six years helping international students navigate study permits, and she can spot a missing translation or an inconsistent date across a two-hundred-page file in one pass.

She manages application assembly and filing for most of the firm's permanent-residence work, and runs the free document-checklist clinics we hold each season for newcomer settlement groups in Halifax.

In Canada, only lawyers, Québec notaries, and licensed immigration consultants may represent you for a fee. Everyone advising you at Harbourlight is one of these — and you can verify any representative's licence with their regulator before hiring them. Please do; it's the single best fraud protection that exists.

Where each leads

Mei-Ling leads document-heavy filings — study and work applications, PR assembly. Nadia and Omar lead strategy, complex files, refusals, and anything that could end up before a tribunal or court, where only lawyers can act. Your retainer names the responsible professional on page one.

What we don't do

Refugee claims deserve specialists who do them every week — we refer them, free, to practitioners we trust. And we don't take files we don't believe in: if your strongest honest move is to wait or to self-file something simple, that's the advice you'll get.
