One tunnel, a lot of vacuums, and a rule about cancelling.
Glint started in Kentwood in 2017. Tess had run the night shift at a self-serve wash through college; Omar had cancelled one too many gym memberships by certified letter. The wash was the easy part. The club had to be the kind you'd tell a friend about.
How we got here
- 2017 Tess and Omar open the Kentwood tunnel with one pay lane and twelve vacuums.
- 2018 The Glint Club launches with a paper sticker on the windshield and a rule: cancel any time.
- 2020 Walker opens. We keep the six self-serve bays that were already there and heat the floors.
- 2021 Stickers retire. License-plate readers go in at both sites; members stop tapping screens.
- 2022 The Kentwood interior center opens in the old detail garage behind the vacuums.
- 2023 Grandville opens with our longest conveyor and the first members-only fast lane.
Today we run three tunnels around Grand Rapids with about forty people, most of them local high school and college students on their first job. We still answer member email ourselves.
