Straight answers, kept

Including the one every swim school gets asked and most dodge: how long until my kid can swim? The honest answer is a range, and it's the first question below.

How many lessons until my kid can actually swim?

Honestly: it varies, and anyone who quotes you one number is selling something. Industry-wide, kids typically need somewhere between 20 and 50 hours of instruction to become genuinely water-safe — for weekly 30-minute group lessons, that usually means 12 to 24 months from first bubble to a confident, unassisted swim (our S3-level skills). Frequency is the biggest lever: two classes a week roughly halves the calendar time, which is why the second weekly class is 15% off. What we promise is not a date — it's that you'll always know exactly which level your child is in, what skill is next, and that we'll move them the week they're ready.

What level should we start in?

Use the find-your-level tool — it asks a swimmer's age and a few honest comfort questions and recommends a starting level with the reasoning shown. Then, in the first five minutes of your first class, the instructor runs a short in-water placement check to confirm. If the tool guessed wrong, we move your swimmer that same week and adjust nothing on your bill.

When does my child move up a level?

The week they're ready — not at the end of a 'session.' Instructors assess continuously against the published skill checklists, and level moves happen mid-month whenever a swimmer clears their rung. You'll never pay to repeat skills a child already owns.

Why are lessons only 30 minutes?

Because young swimmers learn in short, focused bursts. Past the half-hour mark, preschoolers get cold, tired, and frustrated — three things that teach a child the pool isn't for them. Teens, adults, Swim Strong, and the stroke clinic run 45 minutes because older swimmers can hold focus (and warmth) longer.

What does the $48 registration fee actually pay for?

Enrolment admin, insurance, your swimmer's Sunfish cap, and the printed progress booklet we update at every level move. It's charged once a year per family — not per child — and it's on the pricing page in full-size type because fees you discover at checkout are how swim schools lose trust.

How do makeup classes work?

Tell us before class starts and the missed class becomes a makeup token. You can hold two active tokens, and each one books any open class at the same level within 60 days. Tokens don't turn into refunds, and no-shows don't earn them — an honestly-stated limit we'd rather you read here than discover in fine print.

Can I watch the lessons?

Always. The viewing gallery runs the full length of the pool and we will never ask you to leave, use a mirrored window, or 'trust the process' from the lobby. Fair warning from our own reviews: the 4–5 p.m. weekday gallery fills up.

My child is terrified of water. Is that a problem?

It's the most normal thing in the building. P1 and S1 exist precisely for frightened beginners, ratios are capped at 4:1 so nobody gets rushed, and our instructors are trained to work with tears, not around them. The water is 32°C — warmth does half the calming for us.

I'm an adult who never learned. Will I be in a class with children?

No. Teen & Adult Learn-to-Swim is 13+ only, runs in the evening and Saturday midday, and is taught by Sam, who learned to swim at 27 himself. Most of the class arrived afraid. There is no audience and no judgment — just four swimmers, one instructor, and warm water.

What should we bring, and what's the swim diaper rule?

A swimsuit, towel, and goggles if you have them — we lend kickboards, fins, and spares. Swimmers under 3 must wear a reusable swim diaper under their suit (two layers). It's non-negotiable because one accident closes the pool for everyone's lessons.

Do you have contracts or cancellation fees?

No contracts, no cancellation fee. Everything is month-to-month — give notice by the 20th and your enrolment ends with the current month. Pausing works the same way, and your level progress is saved for whenever you come back.

Do you run birthday parties or public swims?

No — the pool does one job. Every hour of warm water goes to lessons, which is how classes stay small and the schedule stays reliable. The community centre two blocks over does a lovely party.
