Questions
Cutoffs, fees, swaps, sympathy, weddings and subscriptions. If your question isn't here, call the shop and ask a florist.
Ordering and delivery
What is the same-day cutoff?
On weekdays: 1 p.m. for the peninsula (Zone 1), noon for the Portland mainland and South Portland (Zone 2), and 11 a.m. for nearby towns (Zone 3). On Saturdays: 11 a.m. for Zone 1 and 10:30 a.m. for Zone 2. Zone 4 is next-day only.
How much is delivery?
$12 for Zone 1, $16 for Zone 2, $22 for Zone 3 and $30 for Zone 4. The fee is per stop and shows up in your order before you pay.
Can you deliver at an exact time?
For homes, we deliver within the run (2 to 6 p.m. for same-day). For funerals, ceremonies and events, we deliver by a set time when you order by 3 p.m. the day before.
Do you send orders to florists in other cities?
No. We don't belong to a wire service, so we only deliver where our own driver goes. For other cities, we'll gladly suggest a local independent shop we trust.
What if nobody is home?
We leave flowers in a shaded, safe spot or with a neighbor and text you where. If there's no safe spot, we bring them back and redeliver the next day at no charge.
Flowers and substitutions
Will my flowers look exactly like the picture?
Close, not identical. Every arrangement is made by hand from what came in that morning. The style, size, color and value will match. Individual stems may differ.
What is your substitution policy?
If a stem isn't good enough on the day, we swap it for one of the same color and the same or higher value. If the swap changes the overall look, we call or text you first. You can also choose "call me before any swap" when you order.
How long will my flowers last?
Most last five to seven days with fresh water every other day and a small trim of the stems. Tulips and ranunculus are shorter. Dried flowers last for months.
Are your arrangements safe for cats?
Lilies are very toxic to cats. Tick "cat in the house" on any order and we leave them out. Every plant's care card says whether it is pet-safe.
Sympathy
Can you deliver to a funeral home on the same day?
Often, yes, for home arrangements and plants. For service pieces like wreaths and sprays, please order by 3 p.m. the day before so we can make them properly and confirm with the funeral home.
Can you help me write the card?
Yes. Call us or leave the message blank with a note, and we'll suggest a few gentle lines for you to approve.
Weddings and events
Do you have a wedding minimum?
Full-service weddings on Saturdays from May to October have a $2,500 minimum. Fridays, Sundays and off-season dates have no minimum. Collected florals (you pick up, no setup) start from $650.
How far ahead should we book?
Six to twelve months for summer Saturdays. We take two weddings a weekend at most, and 2027 dates are booking now.
Subscriptions and accounts
How do I pause or cancel a subscription?
Email or call by Thursday at noon. Pausing and cancelling are free, and there's no minimum term.
Do you invoice businesses?
Yes. Weekly accounts and event clients are invoiced monthly, payable within 30 days.
Still not sure? Call (207) 555-0143 in shop hours or email hello@tansyflowers.example. A florist answers, not a call center.
Somebody deserves flowers today.
Order by 1 p.m. on a weekday and they go out on this afternoon's run. Not sure what to send? Call the shop and a real florist will help.
