About Datum

Built by a framer who got tired of hearing 'the inspector never caught it.'

Evan Marsh spent fifteen years building and remodeling Columbus houses before founding Datum in 2016. 4,800+ inspections later, the operating idea hasn't changed: an inspection report should read like evidence — specific, located, severity-coded, priced where honest — because that's what people negotiate six figures over.

Evan Marsh

Owner & lead inspector

Fifteen years framing and remodeling houses before a decade inspecting them — Evan reads a house from the framing out. He wrote Datum's reporting standard: describe what is, say what it means, price what's known, and skip the drama.

  • · OH Home Inspector License #HIS-2016-04127
  • · Residential Thermography Certificate, Level I
  • · Radon Measurement Specialist (state-listed)

Dana Okafor

Inspector

Former insurance field adjuster — Dana has documented more storm-damaged roofs than anyone should. She handles most of Datum's WDI reports and is the reason our roof sections read like claims evidence.

  • · OH Home Inspector License #HIS-2021-08833
  • · Licensed WDI Inspector (pesticide category 12)

Reese Calder

Client coordinator

Reese answers within two rings during business hours, keeps the 48-hour radon pickups on schedule, and makes sure every report goes out before 9 p.m. — or you'd hear from them first.

How we report

The Datum reporting standard

01

Describe, don't dramatize

A hairline settlement crack is a hairline settlement crack — not 'possible structural failure.' Findings get evidence, implications and cost context, never adjectives doing a lawyer's job.

02

No repairs, no kickbacks

We never repair what we inspect and never take referral fees from contractors or agents. The report has no revenue downstream of it — that's the whole point of it.

03

Report the boring stuff too

312 functional items is information the same way 15 findings are. You're buying a picture of the whole house, not a highlight reel of its problems.

04

Say what we couldn't see

Snow on the roof, a locked crawl space, a sealed attic hatch — every report ends with an access log. An inspection that hides its own limits isn't an inspection.

In the truck

Instruments, not vibes

  • Radiometric thermal imager (carried on every inspection)
  • Pin + pinless moisture meters
  • Continuous radon monitors (48-hour, hourly logging)
  • Self-leveling sewer scope camera with locator
  • 26-ft pole camera and drone for steep or wet roofs
  • Gas leak detector, outlet analyzers, laser level

Insured with general liability and errors-&-omissions coverage; certificates available before you book. OH Home Inspector License #HIS-2016-04127 (illustrative).
