About us
From a driveway to a studio.
Obsidian started with one polisher and a borrowed hose. Today it is a two-bay studio, three vans, and five people who still get excited about a clean tape line.
Why we measure
Marco Ruiz started detailing out of his parents' driveway in Mesa. Early on, he polished a client's hood too hard and burned through the clear coat at an edge. It cost him a repaint and taught him the lesson the business is built on: clear coat is thin, and guessing is expensive.
So he bought a paint depth gauge, then a gloss meter, and started writing the numbers down. Customers liked seeing them. In 2018 he opened the studio on Studio Row, and every job card has had readings on it ever since.
The vans came next, for people who want a clean car without losing a morning. The rule stayed the same: the right place for each job, and no surprises on the bill.

What we hold ourselves to
-
01
Measure first
Readings before and after, written down. No guessing with your clear coat.
-
02
Say it before we start
If something cannot be fixed, or will cost more, you hear it before work begins.
-
03
Right place for the job
Washes and interiors travel. Correction, coatings, and film stay in the studio.
-
04
Leave it better than the photos
Every car gets a final walk-around under light before you see it.
The team
Five people, three vans, two bays. You will probably meet at least two of us.
-
Marco Ruiz
Founder, lead paint tech
Marco started detailing out of his parents' driveway in Mesa and opened the studio in 2018. He still does the paint readings on every correction job and will happily talk your ear off about pads.
-
Dana Whitlock
Studio manager, coatings lead
Dana runs the studio calendar and every coating install. She is the reason cars cure indoors for a full day, even when the schedule is packed.
-
Theo Banerjee
Mobile lead
Theo runs Van 1 and trains every new mobile tech. Summer mornings, he is in a driveway by 6 AM and done before the heat.
-
Lena Park
Interior specialist
Lena handles the hard interiors: pet hair, spills, smoke. She keeps a running list of the strangest things found under car seats.
-
Jules Ortega
Scheduling and fleet accounts
Jules books every visit, sets up memberships, and runs our fleet routes. If your window ever has to move, Jules calls first.
-
The studio: LED inspection lights, filtered air, and a 24-hour cure bay.
