How many lessons will I actually need?
Teens: the state's 8 hours plus real parent practice is usually right. Adults with some history: most pass after 4–6 hours. Never driven: plan on 8–12. We tell you our honest estimate after lesson one and we adjust it down as happily as up — unused pack lessons refund at the rate you paid.
Does my teen need a permit before starting?
Before in-car lessons, yes — Ohio law. Before classroom, no: the 24-hour online course can start the week they turn 15½ and most families use it to prep for the permit test itself.
Do you guarantee I'll pass the road test?
No, and we'd worry about any school that does — the examiner works for the state. What we offer instead: a scored mock test first, and we'll honestly tell you to wait if you're not ready. 87% of our test-day students passed first attempt in 2025.
Where do lessons start — do you pick up?
Your choice: our office at Sawmill Commons, your home, or school/work — anywhere inside our 8-mile zone (Dublin, Hilliard, Upper Arlington, Worthington). Outside the zone, call us; sometimes it works with a small travel fee, and we'll say so plainly before you book.
Can I learn on a manual transmission?
Yes — we keep one stick-shift Civic, taught by Dana and Marcus, for +$15 per lesson. Teens do their state-required 8 hours in an automatic first; manual is an add-on skill, not a licensing path.
What's your cancellation policy?
Free reschedule or cancellation up to 24 hours before the lesson, no questions. Inside 24 hours the lesson is charged, because the instructor's hour is already spent. Genuine emergencies get a human decision, not a policy quote.
Can a parent ride along?
On lesson one, absolutely — back seat, observer role. After that we prefer student-and-instructor only; most students drive noticeably worse with an audience, and the written note after each drive tells you everything anyway.
Whose car is used for the road test?
Yours, if it passes the state's inspection checklist (working everything, valid registration and insurance). Or ours: the road-test day package ($175) or car-only option ($140, needs one prior lesson with us) puts you in the dual-brake car you practiced in.
Do you teach in languages other than English?
Elena teaches fully in Spanish. Several instructors have taught hundreds of new-to-US drivers and keep the jargon out of their coaching. The state's knowledge test itself is offered in multiple languages — we'll point you to the current BMV list.
Will lessons lower my insurance?
Sometimes. Teens completing driver's ed usually qualify for a discount, and our Saturday defensive-driving certificate is accepted by many insurers — but call your agent before you book it for that reason. We don't promise discounts we don't control.
What happens in bad weather?
We drive in rain on purpose — the test doesn't wait for sunshine, and neither does life. We cancel for ice, thunderstorms, and Level 2+ snow emergencies, and those cancellations never cost you anything.
Do you sell gift certificates?
Yes, for any package on the pricing page — a popular 16th-birthday and new-citizen gift. They don't expire, because gift cards that expire are a scam with better fonts.
