A small firm, on purpose
Since 2009 we have done one kind of work: helping families after injuries that change a life, and losses that change a family.
Who we are
Wexley Corwin is a Pittsburgh law firm of four attorneys, a nurse case manager and a small staff. We represent people with brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, severe burns and limb loss, and families who have lost someone through another person's carelessness. We serve Western Pennsylvania, eastern Ohio and northern West Virginia.
Our history
Ruth Wexley spent ten years defending insurance companies before she decided she wanted to sit beside the family instead. Daniel Corwin had been handling workplace and product cases at a larger firm, where catastrophic cases were one file among hundreds. In 2009 they opened a firm that would take only the hardest cases, and take fewer of them.
Helen Marsh joined in 2012 to lead our wrongful death work. Samir Rao joined in 2018 and built the life care planning practice that now sits inside every injury case we take.
How we work
We take fewer cases
We keep about 40 cases open at a time. That is how every family gets a named attorney who returns calls the same day.
We fund the case
Experts, testing and investigation can cost a great deal before trial. We pay those costs as the case goes, and you never get a bill from us mid-case.
We go to you
Hospitals, rehab units, kitchens. Evenings and weekends when that's what works. The first conversation has no time limit.
We plan for a lifetime
Every injury case includes a life care plan, so a settlement is measured against the years ahead, not just the bills so far.
What we will not do
- Promise you a result, or a dollar figure, before we know the facts.
- Pressure you to sign anything at the first meeting.
- Hand your case to a lawyer you've never met.
- Settle early because it's convenient for us.
How we are paid
No fee unless we recover
Our fee is a percentage of any recovery, usually 33 to 40 percent depending on the stage, set in writing before you sign anything.
We pay the case costs
Experts, records, testing and court costs are paid by us as the case goes. If there is no recovery, you owe us nothing for them.
Clear numbers at the end
Before any money changes hands, you get a written statement showing the recovery, the fee, the costs and what goes to your family.
An office built for long conversations
Our downtown office has a step-free entrance, accessible parking and a quiet family room. Most of our meetings happen elsewhere, though: at the bedside, in rehab, or at your table.
For referring lawyers
Much of our work comes from general practice, family law, probate and workers' comp attorneys who land a case that needs years of funding and a bench of experts.
Co-counsel or full referral
Stay involved with your client, or hand the case over entirely. Your choice, agreed in writing.
We fund the experts
Life care planners, economists, engineers and medical experts, paid by us as the case goes.
You stay informed
Monthly updates to you, and the same two-week check-ins with your client.
Fees handled by the rules
Referral fees are divided only as Pennsylvania's professional conduct rules allow, with the client's written consent.
