“Nobody remembers the motion you won. They remember whether their kids were okay.”

About Claire Whitfield

Claire founded Aspen Family Law in 2012 after nine years at a litigation firm taught her exactly what she didn't want family law to feel like. She'd watched too many families arrive frightened and leave poorer and angrier — and became convinced that a practice built on de-escalation, plain language, and honest fees would serve people better than one built on billable conflict.

Nineteen years in, most of her divorces still end at a conference table rather than a courtroom. She is a trained family mediator and spends roughly half her week helping couples design their own agreements — work she describes as 'the most hopeful hour in family law.' When a case does require litigation, opposing counsel know her as unfailingly prepared and impossible to provoke.

Claire writes the firm's plain-language guides and reviews every fee schedule we publish, on the theory that a person in crisis should never have to ask what something costs.

Away from the office: Claire lives in Fort Collins with her wife and two teenagers, coaches middle-school cross country, and owns more houseplants than any reasonable person should.
