About Maya Reyes-Chen
Maya came to family law through the child-welfare system: before law school she was a court-appointed special advocate, sitting beside children in dependency hearings. That experience anchors everything about her practice — in any custody or guardianship matter, she starts from the chair the child sits in.
At Aspen she leads the guardianship practice, guiding grandparents into kinship care, families through adult guardianships as parents age, and parents of children with disabilities through the transition at eighteen. Her hearing preparation is legendary within the firm — clients walk into court having already answered every question once, calmly, in our conference room.
She also handles parenting-plan work in higher-conflict divorces, where her steadiness tends to lower the temperature of everyone around her.
Away from the office: Maya grew up the eldest of five and claims that qualified her for family law more than law school did. She spends her weekends trail running with an ungovernable rescue mutt named Biscuit.
