Buying a car
Do you charge a buyer's premium?
No. Our prices are asking prices, not auction estimates, and there is no buyer's premium. A $495 documentation fee applies to every sale. Sales tax, registration and transport are extra and depend on where the car is going.
Are asking prices negotiable?
Sometimes, a little. We price each car on its file and condition, so the asking price is close to where we expect it to sell. On consigned cars, any offer goes to the owner.
Can I bring my own inspector?
Yes, and we encourage it. Any inspector you choose gets our ramp, our tools and our time. We would rather lose a sale than have a car leave with an unanswered question.
Can I buy without seeing the car in person?
Yes. We send the full dossier first, film cold starts and walkarounds on request, and run live video inspections from the ramp. Many of our cars go to owners who first see them on delivery day.
What do the condition grades mean?
Every car gets one of four written grades, from Grade I (recent concours restoration) to Grade IV (preserved original). The full standard is on our process page. A grade describes condition, not value.
Do you ship outside the country?
Yes. We arrange enclosed, insured transport and handle export paperwork. Transport is quoted at cost before you commit.
Selling or consigning
What does consignment cost?
As an example, a typical agreement is 8% of the final sale price with a $5,000 minimum, paid only when the car sells. No sale, no fee. Every agreement is written for the car, so your terms may differ, and we put them in writing before anything happens.
Do you also buy cars outright?
Yes. An outright offer is quicker and simpler. Consignment usually nets the owner more but takes longer. We will tell you plainly which we think suits your car.
How long does a consignment usually run?
Most agreements run 90 days and can be renewed or ended by either side. Some cars find a buyer in the first week; rarer cars can take a season.
Who pays for the inspection?
For a consignment, our inspection and dossier work are included in the commission. If we part ways before a sale, you keep the inspection report.
Will you tell me if my car is worth less than I hope?
Yes, in writing and with our reasons. A realistic figure on day one is the fastest route to a sale.
Visits and financing
Do I need an appointment to visit?
Yes. The showroom is open by appointment, Tuesday to Saturday. Viewings run about ninety minutes and are yours alone.
Do you arrange financing?
We introduce clients to specialist collector-car lenders and prepare the appraisal pack. The loan itself is between you and the lender, and we hold no interest in it. See the financing page for an estimator.
Can I come to an event without buying anything?
Of course. Our open mornings and evenings are small and free. Reserve a place on the events page.
