Sunscreen is not just for July
Why the morning SPF step stays, even on grey Atlantic days, and how to make it easy.

UVA light, the kind linked to the look of skin aging, is present all year and passes through cloud. Snow and water reflect UV back up at you. That is why we treat sunscreen as a daily step, not a beach step.
How much is enough
Most people use far less than the amount used to test the SPF. A simple guide is two finger-lengths of lotion for your face and neck. If that feels like a lot, apply two thin layers a minute apart.
Reapplying in real life
- Indoors most of the day: your morning layer is your main protection.
- Outdoors: reapply at least every 2 hours, and after swimming, sweating or towelling.
- Add shade, a hat and sunglasses on bright days. Sunscreen is one tool, not the whole kit.
Mineral and white cast
Mineral filters like zinc oxide can leave a slight white cast, more so on deeper skin tones. Rubbing in well and building thin layers helps. If it still does not work for you, tell us: we would rather you wear a sunscreen you like from anyone than skip the step.
