Fogline started with one winter, one tight and stinging face, and a cosmetic chemist who decided to make the routine she could not find.
It started with a winter.
Nadia moved to Halifax in 2017. By February, the wind off the harbour and the radiator in her apartment had left her skin tight, flaky and stinging after every wash. Her shelf was full of products that each promised everything, and most of them were scented.
So she did what cosmetic chemists do: she went back to basics. A gentle wash. Water held in by the right ingredients. A cream built from the same kinds of fats skin uses itself. A balm for the windiest walks. And a sunscreen she would actually wear on a grey day.
Friends asked for jars. Then friends of friends. In 2019, Fogline became a real company, with a small studio near the water and a promise to keep the range short and the labels honest.

Fewer, better products
Eleven products, each with one clear job. We would rather make one great moisturizer than five that overlap.

A winter before launch
Every formula spends a full Halifax winter on the studio shelf and in our team's routines before it goes on sale.

Amber glass and refills
Amber glass shields light-sensitive ingredients and is widely recyclable. Refills arrive when you need them, not before.
How a product gets made.
From a one-line brief to your bathroom shelf usually takes about eighteen months.
- 01 The brief One job, written in a sentence. If we cannot say what a product is for in plain words, we do not make it.
- 02 Formula drafts Our formulator writes and mixes small test batches, usually ten or more versions, to get the texture right.
- 03 Stability and safety checks An independent lab checks each final formula for stability and preservation before the first full batch is made.
- 04 The winter trial The team and a small group of volunteers use it daily through the cold months and tell us what they really think.
- 05 Launch, with the full label Made in small batches by a licensed manufacturer in Nova Scotia, following Health Canada's cosmetic rules.
