FAQ
Questions, answered plainly.
If your question isn't here, email us. A person reads every message, usually the same day on weekdays.
Getting started
Do I need a pottery wheel?
No. Kitchen-Table Handbuilding needs no wheel at all, and plenty of members never buy one. If you want to throw, a community studio membership works just as well as a wheel at home.
Do I need a kiln?
No. Most members don't own one. Firing Without a Kiln shows you how to find community studios and firing services, pack your pots, and talk to whoever fires them.
I've never touched clay. Is this too advanced?
No. Start with the free sampler, then Wheel Foundations or Handbuilding. Both assume you know nothing, and the Front porch space is full of people who started last month.
How much time does it take each week?
As much as you have. Lessons run 5 to 18 minutes. Members who practise two or three short sessions a week usually say that's enough to feel progress.
Membership and billing
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. Account, then Membership, then Cancel. Two clicks, no call, no exit survey. You keep access until the end of the period you already paid for.
What's the refund policy?
Monthly plans: your first payment is fully refundable for 14 days. Yearly plans: full refund for 30 days, then a refund of the whole months you haven't used, if you ask.
Can I pause instead of cancelling?
Yes, for up to three months a year. You aren't charged while paused, and nothing you've posted or saved goes anywhere.
What happens if my card fails?
We email you and keep your access open for 14 days while you update it. We never delete progress or posts over a failed payment.
Can I switch tiers?
Anytime. Moving up starts right away and we charge only the difference for the rest of your billing period. Moving down starts at your next renewal.
Will this help me start a pottery business?
We don't promise that, and we'd be wary of anyone who does. Mudroom teaches you to make good pots. Some members sell at markets; most make pots for themselves and their friends. Both are the point.
Live sessions and community
What if I can't make the live times?
Every session is recorded and posted in the library within 48 hours with captions. Library members watch everything as replays.
Do I have to be on camera?
Never. Cameras are optional in every session, and you can type questions in the chat instead of speaking.
What are the community rules?
Be kind about every pot, critique only when someone asks for it, no selling or pitching, credit recipes, respect pinned safety notes, and keep members' work inside the community.
Are the free videos the same as the membership?
No, and the free videos aren't going anywhere. They're single techniques. The membership is the same teaching in order, plus live sessions, crit and a community that answers back.
Access and safety
Are lessons captioned?
Yes. Every lesson and replay has human-checked captions and a written transcript, and every lesson page lists measurements in both imperial and metric.
Is pottery safe to do at home?
It can be, with a few habits: wet cleaning instead of sweeping, a fitted respirator for dry materials, and care around kilns. The first lesson of Glaze Without Fear covers it plainly.
Is there an age limit?
Members must be 18 or older. Younger potters are welcome with a parent who holds the membership and joins them.
