Investment management

Diversified, low-cost, disciplined

Globally diversified portfolios built from low-cost funds, sized to your plan rather than to a market forecast, and rebalanced with discipline instead of adrenaline.

Is this you?

Who this is for, and what you get

You might need this if

  • Your accounts are spread across several firms and nobody sees the whole picture
  • You hold more of one stock than you'd like, often your employer's
  • You want a portfolio sized to your plan, not to this year's headlines
  • You'd rather not watch markets, and you want someone steady when they fall
  • You want to know your total cost, in dollars, every year

What this includes

  • An Investment Policy Statement you can actually read
  • Global diversification across stocks, bonds, and real assets
  • Scheduled rebalancing and tax-loss harvesting
  • Assets held at an independent custodian, in your name
  • No house products. Nothing we're paid to place.

How it works

Five steps, in order

Every engagement follows the same rhythm, so you always know what happens next and why. The full five-step process is on our approach page.

In a down year, the disciplined version of our job is unheroic: harvest the losses, rebalance into the decline, and talk a family out of selling at the bottom. That year matters more than the up ones.

A composite example for this sample site. Details changed, arithmetic kept honest.
  1. Write the policy

Your targets, limits, and rebalancing rules, written in plain English and signed by both of us.

  2. Build the mix

Low-cost funds across stocks, bonds, and real assets, sized to the plan rather than a forecast.

  3. Move with care

Old holdings move in a tax-aware order, sometimes over several years, so taxes don't eat the switch.

  4. Stay on target

Rebalancing and tax-loss harvesting on a set schedule, not on a hunch or a headline.

  5. Report plainly

Returns net of every fee, shown next to fair benchmarks, in the client portal.

Hypothetical example

What costs do over twenty years

The same $1,000,000 portfolio, the same 6% yearly return before costs, two different all-in cost levels.

One extra percent a year sounds small. Compounded for twenty years, in this example, it costs nearly half a million dollars.

All-in costs of 0.80% a year
$2,756,226
All-in costs of 1.80% a year
$2,276,955
Left behind by the extra 1%
$479,271

Hypothetical example, compounded yearly, before taxes. The 6% figure is an assumption for illustration only, not a forecast for any portfolio.

Where our role ends

We can't prevent losses, and no one honestly can. Investing involves risk, including the loss of money you put in.

What it costs

Wealth management clients get all four services for one tiered fee. As an example, a household with $1,500,000 would pay $12,250 a year under our sample schedule. Planning only? Foundations planning is a flat $4,800 a year.

Common questions

About investment management

More answers on fees, custody, and how we work are on the full FAQ.

Do you pick stocks?

No. We build with broadly diversified, low-cost funds. We don't try to predict which company, sector, or country wins next.

Where is my money held?

At an independent custodian, in accounts in your name. With your permission we can place trades and deduct our fee, but we can't withdraw money to ourselves.

What do you do when markets fall?

We follow the policy we wrote with you: rebalance, harvest losses where it helps with taxes, and keep talking. The goal is to avoid selling at the worst moment.

One plan, four disciplines

The other three pull in the same direction

Financial planning

The plan is the product

A living plan, tested in scenarios, for retirement readiness, education funding, big purchases, and the what-ifs in between. We revisit it every year instead of printing it and shelving it.

How it works: Financial planning

Tax coordination

It's what you keep that compounds

We work with your CPA so the plan, the portfolio, and the tax return act like one strategy: asset location, withdrawal order, Roth conversions, and charitable timing.

How it works: Tax coordination

Estate coordination

The plan should outlive its authors

We make sure the documents your attorney drafts match how your accounts are titled and who your beneficiaries are. Then we help the next generation understand the plan.
