About us
About Threshold
A threshold is the strip where one room's floor meets the next. It's the part people notice when it's done badly, and never when it's done right.
2011
One van, one rule: our own people, and prep done properly.
How we got here
Threshold exists because its founder spent years fixing floors that failed for avoidable reasons.
-
1999
A first floor in a Barriefield bungalow
Nadia Brennan learns the trade from a hardwood crew, three summers on her knees with a nail gun.
-
2003 to 2011
Twelve years installing for big-box stores
Paid by the square foot, rushed by the schedule, and called back to fix the same failures: floors laid on wet slabs, skipped acclimation, levelling left out to keep the quote low.
-
2011
Threshold starts with one van
The plan was simple: measure properly, quote the prep honestly, and never hand a job to a subcontracted crew.
-
2017
The Quarry Lane showroom opens
One room of real floors, a wet table, and a sample shelf customers are encouraged to empty.
-
Today
Nine people, six of them installers
Still measuring every job ourselves, still writing material and labour on separate lines.
How we work
-
01
Our own crew, every job
Six installers on our payroll, no subcontracted crews. The person who measures your floor works with the person who installs it.
-
02
Prep is on the quote
Moisture readings, levelling and removal are written as their own lines. You see what the floor underneath needs before you sign.
-
03
Material and labour, separately
Every estimate splits the two, so you can compare our quote with anyone else's line by line.

The people on your floor
The person who measures your home talks to the person who installs it, usually over coffee at 7 a.m. in the shop.

Nadia Brennan
Owner, hardwood installer
Laid her first floor in 1999 and spent twelve years installing for big-box stores before starting Threshold with one van in 2011. Still on the tools two days a week.
-
Priya Raman
Showroom and free measures
Runs the showroom and most in-home measures. Will tell you when the cheaper floor is the right one.
-
Luc Gagnon
Lead installer, vinyl and laminate
Fourteen years on floating floors. Owns the straightedge and the levelling compound, and uses both a lot.
-
Owen Achterberg
Tile setter
Sets every tile floor we install. Lifts tiles mid-job to check coverage, and shows you the back of one if you ask.
-
Sam Ortiz
Refinishing lead
Sands, stains and finishes. Has brought back more 1920s oak than anyone else we know.
-
What customers say about them
And four more
Two more installers, a second estimator, and an office manager who keeps the schedule honest. Everyone here is on our payroll.
Where we work
