Campaign 03 · Canvass shifts filled
Solar on Schools
Put Measure L — 22 school roofs — on the November ballot
Measure L is a facilities bond that would put solar on all 22 Calder Unified school roofs, cutting the district's power bill by an estimated $610,000 a year — money that goes back into classrooms. Bonds pass when neighbors hear about them from neighbors.
Training provided at every launch — first-timers welcome.
Canvass phase — ballot certification in August
The plan, plainly
The engineering is done: district facilities staff assessed all 22 roofs, and 19 can take panels without structural work. At today's rates the arrays would cover about a third of district electricity use and save an estimated $610,000 a year at full build-out — roughly eight teaching positions, every year, from sunshine.
School bonds in Calder County pass or fail on turnout, and turnout is built at the door. Our canvass is relentlessly local: volunteers talk to their own precincts, with a one-page fact sheet and an honest answer about what the bond costs — the median homeowner pays about $38 a year.
We do not do doom at the door. We do arithmetic, school pride, and a yard sign if they want one. It works: in our first 214 shifts, 68% of conversations ended in a committed yes or a lean yes.
The ask: 500 canvass shifts before election day. A trained volunteer covers a precinct in one shift.
