The sustainability committee voted 4–1 on Wednesday night to advance the Ready by 2030 resolution to the full Calder City council, setting up a final vote in the first week of September.

Ninety minutes of public comment ran heavily in favor: of 31 speakers, 27 backed the resolution, including a facilities engineer who walked the committee through the twelve-roof solar assessment and a fourth-grade teacher who brought her class's energy-audit poster.

The resolution commits city operations — 214 electricity accounts, 46 GWh a year — to 100% clean electricity by 2030, with an annual public dashboard. Six councilmembers have pledged support; a seventh vote would make the measure veto-proof.

The Fair Fares, Clean Air petition passed 7,400 signatures this week, driven by weekend tabling at Depot Plaza and volunteer collectors riding Route 12 itself with clipboards.

Volunteers report that most riders sign before the second sentence of the pitch — unsurprising on a line where evening waits average 22 minutes and 43% of riders have no car available for the trip.

The goal is 10,000 signatures before the county's FY2027 budget hearings open this fall, when the coalition will deliver the petition in person alongside riders ready to testify.

The corridor package — eight electric buses and 10-minute peak service — is priced at $14.6M over four years, with most costs eligible for state clean-transit matching funds.
