The practical details

Everything patients ask us before and after a visit, written down: how to prepare, what to expect in the room, how to look after a biopsy site, and the sun plan we actually recommend.

01

Before your visit

  • Come with bare skin where possible — no makeup over a facial concern, no nail polish for nail concerns.
  • Bring every product and prescription you currently use on the area. Photos of past flares help enormously.
  • For full-body exams, wear or bring loosened hair (we check the scalp) and skip fake tan the week before.
  • New patients: arrive 10 minutes early, or do the intake forms from the confirmation email at home.

02

What to expect in the room

  • You will always know who you are seeing and what their role is — physician or PA — before the door closes.
  • Gowns cover what you want covered; a chaperone is available for any exam, no reason needed.
  • If a biopsy is recommended, we explain what we are testing for and what each possible answer would mean — before you decide.
  • You leave with a written plan: what to use, in what order, and when we should see the result.

03

After a biopsy

  • Keep the bandage on for 24 hours, then wash gently with soap and water — no peroxide, no alcohol.
  • A little plain petroleum jelly and a fresh bandage daily until healed beats every fancy ointment.
  • Some soreness and a small scar are normal. Spreading redness, pus, or fever are not — call us.
  • Results take about a week. We call you either way — benign results are still results.

04

A sun plan you'll actually follow

  • SPF 30+ on face, ears, and neck every morning — the habit matters more than the number.
  • Reapplication matters on beach and sport days: every two hours, more after water.
  • A hat and shade between 11 and 3 do more than any product.
  • One blistering sunburn matters. Not as guilt — as information for your screening schedule.

You leave with it in writing

Every Aster visit ends with a written plan: what to use, in what order, what it costs, and when we should check the result. Half of dermatology is remembering the instructions three weeks later — so we don’t make memory part of the treatment.
