Questions

Asked often. Answered plainly.

If your question is not here, call us. A person answers on weekdays from 7:30 a.m. These answers are general information, not medical advice for your situation.

Visits

Do I need a referral?

Most plans let you see a specialist without one. Some HMO plans require a referral from your primary care doctor. Tell us your plan when you book and we will check.

How soon can I be seen?

New injuries are usually seen within a few business days, and concussions within the week. For a fresh sprain or a suspected fracture, walk in to ortho urgent care.

What should I bring?

Your insurance card, a photo ID, a list of medicines, and any imaging or ER paperwork. Wear shorts or a loose top so we can examine the joint.

Will I see a surgeon first?

Not always. Many people start with our sports medicine physician, who handles injuries that do not need surgery and brings a surgeon in when it makes sense.

Surgery and recovery

Do you recommend surgery for everything?

No. Most of the people we see never need an operation. When surgery is the better choice, we explain why and show the recovery in ranges, and the decision stays yours.

Can I get a second opinion here?

Yes. Book a second-opinion visit and bring your imaging and notes. We will tell you plainly if we agree, disagree or need more information.

Why do you show recovery as ranges?

Because recovery is different for everyone. The injury, the repair, your health and your rehab all change the timeline. A range is more honest than a single date.

Is physical therapy really in the same building?

Yes, at Boise Bench, Meridian and Eagle. Your surgeon and therapist share notes, so the plan stays in step.

Urgent care

Do I need an appointment for ortho urgent care?

No. Walk in during urgent care hours at Boise Bench or Meridian. You can also call ahead so we know you are coming.

When should I go to the ER instead?

Bone through the skin, a limb that looks badly out of place, a cold or numb hand or foot, a head, neck or back injury, chest pain, or trouble breathing: call 911 or go to the ER.

Insurance and cost

Which insurance do you take?

Most commercial PPO and many HMO plans, Medicare and Medicare Advantage, Idaho Medicaid, workers' compensation and auto injury claims. Call or use the online check and we will confirm your plan.

What if I do not have insurance?

Our self-pay prices are posted on the insurance page. You can ask for a written Good Faith Estimate before any visit or procedure.

Sports and concussion

Do you do sports physicals?

Yes, at Meridian and Eagle, with school and league forms filled out during the visit.

Can you work with my child's coach or athletic trainer?

Yes, with written permission from a parent or guardian. Shared plans help everyone keep the athlete safe.

In an emergency, call 911. Bone through the skin, a limb that looks badly out of place, a cold or numb hand or foot, or a head injury with worsening headache, vomiting or confusion needs the ER, not a clinic visit. For everything else, walk in to ortho urgent care or call (208) 555-0163.

Hurt today, or planning ahead?

Book a visit online in about three minutes. For a fresh sprain or a suspected simple fracture, walk in to ortho urgent care instead.
