Wiring inspections & rewires
A flat-fee inspection that tells you what your old wiring actually is — before anyone quotes you five figures to replace it.
How we approach it
Hamilton's housing stock is full of knob-and-tube, aluminum branch circuits, and 60 A services — and full of contractors happy to quote a full rewire sight-unseen. Our inspection is a flat fee: we open the panel, sample accessible junctions, map what's original and what's been replaced, and hand you a written report with photos. Sometimes the answer is 'rewire the second floor, the rest was done in the 90s.' Sometimes it's 'this is fine, here's the letter your insurer wants.' The report is yours either way — there's no obligation to hire us for the work it describes.
Price book
Planning ranges for typical homes, HST extra. The firm number is written after a site visit — and includes the ESA permit as its own line.
| Job | Range (CAD) |
|---|---|
| Wiring inspection & written report Flat fee, most homes; credited against any rewire we do | $280–$420 |
| Knob-and-tube rewire, per storey Typical 700–900 sq ft storey, plaster patching by others | $4,500–$7,500 |
| Whole-home K&T rewire, under 1,200 sq ft Includes panel directory rebuild and ESA final | $9,000–$14,000 |
| Whole-home K&T rewire, 1,200–2,000 sq ft The most common Hamilton century-home scope | $12,000–$19,000 |
| Aluminum wiring remediation, per device CSA-approved copper-to-aluminum connectors at every termination | $45–$70 |
Honesty note We do not quote whole-home rewires without an inspection — any number produced sight-unseen is a guess wearing a suit. Rewire pricing excludes plaster/drywall repair; we cut carefully and can refer patchers we trust.
