Ember Blend is my new house espresso

I pull two lattes a day on a home machine. Ember Blend is syrupy and the orange note cuts right through the milk. I had it dialled in within three shots.

The quiz got it right the first time

The quiz nailed it on the first try. Eight months in and the only change I've made is adding a second bag, which took about ten seconds.

    Great coffee, slow to Alberta

The coffee is excellent, but my boxes take 5 or 6 business days to reach Calgary. That puts me later in the freshness window than people out east.

    Reply from Ember & Oak

That's fair, Ben, and thank you for saying it. We've moved you to express shipping at no charge while we test a faster carrier for the Prairies. If a bag ever reaches you past its best, we'll replace it.

    Pausing for vacation actually works

Roast date on the bag, ships when it says it will, and pausing for vacation actually works. The coffee being excellent almost feels like a bonus.

My dad now sends me tasting notes

I gave my dad the 6-delivery gift and he now texts me tasting notes. Unprompted. My father. Tasting notes.

Skipping is easy, mind the cutoff

I skipped a box before a trip and it took two taps. I missed the Sunday cutoff once and that box still shipped, which the terms do say plainly. Now I set a reminder.

    Reply from Ember & Oak

Thanks, Aisha. We now send a Friday email with a one-tap skip link before every cutoff, so it's harder to miss.

Lovely, once it rests a few days

First Light tasted a bit flat the day it arrived. By day five it was all peach and jasmine. Now I let each bag rest before I open it. Four stars only because the bag goes too fast.

    Reply from Ember & Oak

Thanks, Hannah. Light roasts do open up after a few days of rest, so you've found the trick. We've added a 'best from' day to the label on light roasts.

Cancelled for a move, came back after

I cancelled when I moved house and there was no guilt trip, just a confirmation email. I restarted three months later and my old settings were still saved.

Shows up on Thursday like clockwork

Roasted Monday, on my porch Thursday or Friday. I've had one late box in a year, during a snowstorm, and they emailed me about it before I noticed.

    Decaf nobody guesses is decaf

I'm off caffeine after 2 pm, and Slow Ember is the first decaf I actually look forward to. I served it at a dinner party and nobody noticed.

Dark roast without the burnt taste

I've been a dark-roast person for thirty years and assumed it all tasted a bit like ash. Night Shift is heavy and sweet. It makes a great cold brew in summer too.

Bright and wild, not for everyone

Paper Kite tastes like blackcurrant jam. My partner found it too sharp, so we swapped his half of the box to Casa Verde. Easy fix.

    A thank-you that keeps arriving

I sent the 3-delivery box to my thesis supervisor. She picked her own start date and grind, and the card had my message printed exactly as I wrote it.

I ordered the three-roast sampler before committing. I landed on medium, took the quiz to confirm it, and I've been subscribed since spring.

The easiest wedding gift I've given

I gave a 12-delivery box as a wedding gift. They redeemed it after the honeymoon, and the deliveries didn't start counting until they were home.

    Fits the rural mailbox

The box is slim enough for my rural mailbox, so there are no trips to the depot. The roast date is always within the week.
