About adult classes

Good for

  • Complete beginners
  • Returning dancers
  • Parents who sat in the lobby long enough

Most of our adult dancers either never took a class or stopped at 12 and always missed it. Classes are built for both, at an evening hour that works after a workday.

Pay by the class, buy a 10-class card, or sign up for the term. Adults can dance one number in the June show if they want to. Nobody has to.

Levels

Five, six, seven, eight: one class, start to finish

  1. Count 5: Warm-up

A real warm-up for real joints. Modify anything, any time.

  2. Count 6: Technique

A few steps broken down slowly, with options for each level.

  3. Count 7: Across the floor

Travelling steps in small groups, so nobody is in the spotlight alone.

  4. Count 8: Combination

A short routine you will be surprised you can do.

Who teaches adults

  • Jordan Okafor

    Hip hop and breaking

Jordan grew up battling in community centre gyms and has taught hip hop to kids and adults for over ten years. His classes start with grooves and end with a freestyle circle, and nobody is made to go in the middle.

  • Hannah Lindqvist

    Tap, jazz and musical theatre

Hannah came to dance through musical theatre and fell for tap in college. She teaches rhythm the way you would teach a language: listen first, then copy, then make up your own.

  • Danielle Ross

    Adult program lead

Danielle started ballet again at 34 after a twenty-year break, which is exactly why she runs our adult program. Her classes are for real beginners and returning dancers, and nobody has to perform unless they want to.

"I started tap at 41 with two left feet. Hannah never once made me feel slow. I danced in the June show and my kids lost their minds."

Adult Classes: questions

I have never danced. Is that really OK?

Yes. Adult Ballet Basics and Adult Tap assume nothing. You will learn the names of steps as you go, and the teacher shows every option.

Do adults have to be in the recital?

No. Adults can opt in to one number in the June show, and many have more fun than the kids. It is fully optional.

Can I bring a friend?

Please do. Your friend's first class is free too.
