Competition Team
For dancers who want more stage time and more training. We compete to grow, and we tell you every cost before you say yes.
About Competition Team
Good for
- Dancers ages 9 and up taking two or more classes
- Families ready for three or four event weekends
- Dancers who want feedback from outside judges
The Count Eight team dances at three or four regional events a year, two in the Okanagan and one or two out of town. Dancers rehearse group pieces and can add a solo or duet.
We are a recreational studio first. The team is an extra lane for dancers who want it, not the reason the studio exists, and recreational dancers are never treated as second string.

Team rehearsals are for team members. "Book an audition class" saves a spot in the next relaxed audition class (June and September), where every dancer gets written feedback.
What to wear
- Studio team jacket (optional, about $70)
- Black leotard and tights for rehearsals
- Style-specific shoes for each piece
- Hair and makeup guide sent before each event
For a trial class, comfortable clothes and bare feet or clean sneakers are fine.
What it costs
from $310 a month
Most team dancers are on the unlimited plan (from $310 a month). Event entry fees, competition costumes and travel are extra; see the real cost of the team on this page.
Second classes are 10% off. Siblings are 10% off. The first class is always free.
Every rate and feeThe real cost of the team
Every family gets a written estimate for their dancer before saying yes. These are the parts it is built from.
- Tuition
- Most team dancers use the unlimited plan, from $310 a month, September to June.
- Event entry fees
- Charged by each event, not by us: about $60 to $90 per group dance, per event; solos about $120 to $160.
- Competition costumes
- $140 to $220 per competition costume, one per group dance. Yours to keep.
- Travel
- Two events are in the Okanagan. For one or two out-of-town weekends, families book their own travel.
- Team jacket
- Optional, about $70.
- What we never add
- No team fundraising quota and no required private lessons.
Who teaches competition team
-
Theo Marchand
Competition team director, lyrical and contemporary
Theo danced on a competitive team himself, then trained in contemporary dance. He runs the competition team with one rule above the others: the goal is a better dancer in June, not a bigger trophy shelf.
"The team is serious about training but the pressure is low. We got a written cost estimate before we said yes, which I have never seen before."

Competition Team: questions
What does the team really cost?
Plan for the unlimited tuition plan (from $310 a month), event entry fees of about $60 to $90 per group dance per event, $140 to $220 per competition costume, and your own travel for out-of-town events. You get a written estimate for your dancer before you commit.
Is there a lot of pressure?
We set goals for each dancer, not trophy targets. Rehearsal plans go out every Sunday, and nobody is benched for a bad day.
Can my dancer join mid-season?
Usually not for group pieces, since they are set in the fall. Come to a September audition class or ask about a solo.
