The style you can hear. Rhythm, timing and counting, taught one sound at a time.

About Tap

Good for

  • Kids who love rhythm and making noise
  • Dancers who want better timing
  • Pairing with ballet in the Combo class for 4 to 5 year olds

Tap is music you make with your feet. It is great for kids who love noise, for kids who love patterns, and for anyone who wants better timing in every other style.

We start with single sounds and simple rhythms, then build to shuffles, flaps, time steps and finally improvised rhythm. Dancers hear their own progress, which is very motivating.

Who teaches tap

  • Hannah Lindqvist

    Tap, jazz and musical theatre

Hannah came to dance through musical theatre and fell for tap in college. She teaches rhythm the way you would teach a language: listen first, then copy, then make up your own.

"Great teachers and a well-run show. Parking at 5 p.m. on a weekday is tight, so come a few minutes early."

Tap: questions

Where do we buy tap shoes?

Any dancewear store, or start with our free used shoe shelf at the front desk. For the trial class, sneakers are fine.

Is tap loud for the neighbours?

Our studios are sound-treated, and practising at home on a small board or a piece of plywood keeps the peace.

Can my 5-year-old take tap?

Our Ballet & Tap Combo class for ages 4 to 5 has 20 minutes of each. Tap 1 starts at age 6.
