Voice lessons

Voice lessons at The Practice Room are technique without the mystique: breath, pitch, range, and confidence, in whatever style you actually want to sing — musical theatre, pop, choral, or the songs your grandmother taught you.

Who this is honestly for

Honest start age: 8 for private lessons — young vocal folds are still developing. Singers aged 6–7 get more from Kids Choir first, and we'll route you there instead of taking your money.

Adults: no age note applies to you, only the reassurance that about a third of this studio is grown-ups, several on their first instrument ever. Under five entirely? Little Notes is the right room, at $228 per 12-week session.

The first 90 days

What actually happens, week by week

  1. 01

Weeks 1–3 — breath support that survives a full phrase; finding your honest range

  2. 02

Weeks 4–8 — pitch-matching drills that don't feel like drills; first full song

  3. 03

Weeks 9–13 — dynamics and storytelling; optional recital slot, never a required one

Timelines assume the honest practice minimums from the FAQ — five focused minutes a day for the youngest, twenty for teens and adults. Slower is fine; we adjust the plan, not the kid.

Who teaches voice here

Carmen Silva

Voice · Kids Choir director · 14 years teaching

  • BM, Vocal Performance — Ridgeline University
  • Kids Choir director since 2018 · lessons in English or Spanish
  • Background-checked annually, like all staff

Carmen sang professionally for a decade and now teaches voice the way she wishes she'd been taught: technique without mystique, styles without snobbery. She directs the no-audition Kids Choir and hosts the adults-only Living Room Sessions where stage fright goes to shrink.

When they teach

  • Tuesday 4:15 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.

Pick a teacher and a real slot from their actual schedule. If the honest answer at the trial is 'wait a year' or 'different instrument,' you'll hear it there, free, instead of three paid months in.
