Insurance and cost
Insurance and cost, in plain words.
Most people use insurance for treatment here, and many pay less than they expect. We check your exact benefits the same day and tell you the real number before you start.
Benefits checked the same day
Quick coverage check
Three questions, a plain answer. For your exact benefits, send the result to our admissions team.
Demo: answers below are general examples for this sample site, not a real benefits check.
How a benefits check works
- Share your cardA photo of the front and back, or the member ID and the policyholder's date of birth.
- We call your planOur admissions team asks about your deductible, copays, network status and any approval needed.
- You get a plain answerUsually within three hours during office hours: what is covered and what you would likely pay.
- You decideNothing is booked until you say so. If the cost does not work, we look at other options with you.
Will my employer see this?
We use your insurance details only to check benefits and bill your plan. Federal law (42 CFR Part 2) keeps your treatment records private, and we never contact your employer.
Coverage we work with
Network contracts change, so we confirm your exact plan every time. These are the kinds of coverage most people use here.
-
Private insurance
Your cost depends on your deductible and copays. Send your member ID and we will tell you the likely number, usually the same day.
-
Montana Medicaid
Medicaid covers detox, residential, outpatient care and medication for most members, often with little or no cost to you. Some levels need approval first, and we handle that.
-
Medicare
Outpatient programs, counseling and medication visits are covered by Medicare and most Medicare Advantage plans. We check the details for residential care case by case.
-
TRICARE or VA
TRICARE covers most of our programs. For VA care, we can work through Community Care referrals when the VA approves them.
-
Tribal health or IHS
Tribal health and IHS referrals work differently from insurance. Our admissions team will call your clinic with you, if you want, to set up a referral.
-
No insurance
We publish self-pay ranges, offer payment plans, and can help you apply for Medicaid or state-funded treatment if you qualify. The free SAMHSA helpline at 1-800-662-4357 also lists low-cost options.

Words you will hear on the call
- Deductible
- What you pay each year before your plan starts sharing costs. It usually resets every January.
- Copay or coinsurance
- Your share after the deductible: a flat amount (copay) or a percentage (coinsurance) per day or visit.
- Out-of-pocket maximum
- The most you pay in a plan year. After that, covered care is paid in full.
- In network
- We have a contract with your plan, which usually means lower costs for you.
- Prior authorization
- Your plan asks to approve some care before it starts. We make that call for you.
- Single case agreement
- A one-time deal with a plan we are not in network with, so you can be treated here at in-network rates.
Parity, briefly: a federal law generally requires health plans to cover mental health and substance use care no more strictly than other medical care. If a plan's rules seem unfair, we can help you ask questions.
Cost questions
How much does treatment cost?
It depends on the level of care and your insurance. We publish self-pay ranges on every program page and on our insurance page, and we check your benefits before you start so you know your likely cost.
What if you are not in network with my plan?
We may still be able to help through out-of-network benefits or a single case agreement. If we cannot, we will help you find a center that is in network.
Do you take Medicaid?
Yes, we accept Montana Medicaid for detox, residential, outpatient care and medication.
