What it is

Outpatient care means you sleep in your own bed and come to us for treatment. It is how most people do their recovery, and it is the heart of what we do.

There are three levels, and people often move between them. Partial hospitalization (PHP) is most of the day, five days a week. Intensive outpatient (IOP) is about three hours, three days a week, with a daytime or evening track. Outpatient (OP) is one or two sessions a week to keep you steady once things settle.

Your counselor stays the same as you step up or down, so you never have to tell your story from the start again.

This may fit if

  • You want treatment and need to keep working, studying or caring for family
  • You have a safe place to live
  • You are stepping down from detox or residential care
  • Weekly therapy alone has not been enough

Please start somewhere else if

  • Withdrawal could be dangerous for you: start with detox first
  • Home is not safe right now: residential care may be a better first step

Emergency: 911. Crisis: call or text 988. Poison Help: 1-800-222-1222.

Cost and insurance

What it costs, honestly

Outpatient care is covered by most private plans, Montana Medicaid, Medicare and TRICARE. Many people pay a copay per day or per session after their deductible. We tell you the likely number before you start.

How insurance works here

Self-pay ranges

Partial hospitalization (PHP)
$350 to $500 per program day
Intensive outpatient (IOP)
$175 to $275 per program day
Outpatient counseling (OP)
$110 to $160 per session

Ranges, not quotes. Your real cost depends on your plan, your deductible and the care you choose. We tell you before you start.

Questions about outpatient programs

What is the difference between PHP, IOP and OP?

Mostly time. PHP is about six hours a day, five days a week. IOP is about three hours, three days a week. OP is one or two sessions a week. Your counselor helps you pick, and you can move up or down as life changes.

Can I keep working?

Usually, yes. That is what the evening IOP track is for. If you need time off, we can help with the paperwork for medical leave without sharing details your employer does not need.

What if I use during the program?

Tell us. A return to use is information, not a reason to kick anyone out. We look at what happened and adjust your plan, sometimes with more support for a while.

Confidential, always

Ready when you are. Or when they are.

Start a confidential intake in about five minutes, or call and talk it through with a real person. No pressure, no lecture, and nothing is decided until you say so.

Not for emergencies. If someone may be overdosing, call 911. In crisis, call or text 988.
