Teens and adults with crowding, gaps or bite problems
Braces
Metal or tooth-colored braces for kids, teens and adults. Still the most flexible tool for big moves.
- Typical time
- 18 to 30 months
- Visits
- Every 6 to 10 weeks, about 20 to 30 minutes
- Typical cost
- From $4,800 for full metal braces
How it works
Braces work on almost every kind of bite, from simple crowding to bigger bite differences. Small brackets hold a thin wire, and each visit we adjust the wire to guide teeth a little further. You can pick classic metal or clear ceramic brackets that blend in with your teeth. Teens often pick colored ties and change them every visit, which is half the fun.
Often a good fit for
- Crowded or overlapping teeth
- Gaps between teeth
- Overbite, underbite, crossbite or open bite
- Teeth that need to turn or move a long way
- Patients who would rather not keep track of trays
Only an exam can say for sure. The consult is free.

Step 4: Braces off
Brackets come off, we polish, and you leave with retainers the same day.

Day to day
- Expect some soreness for 2 to 4 days after bonding and after some adjustments. Soft foods help.
- Skip hard and sticky foods: popcorn kernels, hard candy, caramel, ice.
- Brush after meals and use a floss threader or water flosser once a day.
- Wear a mouthguard for contact sports. We give the first one free.
The honest part
Treatment time depends on growth, on how well elastics are worn, and on how many brackets come loose. We tell you at each visit if we are on track, early, or behind, and why.

Do braces hurt?
Getting braces on does not hurt. Teeth often feel sore for a few days afterward and after some adjustments. Most people manage it with soft food and an over-the-counter pain reliever.
Metal or clear braces?
Both move teeth the same way. Clear brackets are less noticeable and cost a bit more. Metal brackets are smaller and a little sturdier, which some active teens prefer.
