Wood privacy fences
Pine or cedar privacy, shadowbox and picket fences, built on posts set in concrete and checked with a string line.
from $28 /ft, installed
How we build it
Wood is still the fence most upstate families pick. It gives full privacy for the money, it can be stained any shade, and a damaged board is a cheap fix. We build with pressure-treated pine rated for ground contact or with western red cedar boards on pine posts. Every post goes 2 feet or more into the clay and gets set in concrete, and the top line is pulled tight with a string before a single board goes on.

Questions about wood
Pine or cedar?
Pine costs less and is treated to resist rot. Cedar boards stay straighter and take stain beautifully. Most of our cedar fences still use treated pine posts, because pine posts hold up better in the ground.
How long before I can stain a new wood fence?
Treated pine needs to dry first, usually 6 to 12 weeks in summer. We can come back and seal it for you, or show you what to buy.
Can you build an 8 ft fence?
Often yes, but many towns and HOAs cap backyard fences at 6 ft. We check the rules for your address before we quote 8 ft.
