About us
A lawn company that texts back.
Tuft started in 2016 with one pickup, one mower and a simple idea: tell people what you did to their lawn.

Why every visit ends with a note
Before Tuft, Marcus Hale was a customer. His lawn company came every few weeks, left a yellow flag and a bill, and never once said what they had put down. With a toddler and a beagle in the backyard, he wanted to know.
So when he started mowing lawns around Hilliard, he texted every customer after every visit: what was done, what was applied, when the lawn was ready again, and a photo. People kept that habit alive longer than any coupon. Most of our customers still found us through a neighbor who showed them one of those texts.
Today Tuft is 11 people, three mowing crews and two licensed applicators. The routes are tighter, the notes are tidier, and the idea has not changed.

Three things we will not change
-
01
Same day, same crew
Your mow day does not wander. It is the same weekday all season, usually with the same two people, and rain days move to the next dry day with a text.
-
02
A note after every visit
Every stop ends with a text: what we did, the mower height, anything we applied and when it is safe to walk on, plus a photo of the finished lawn.
-
03
Plain about products
We tell you exactly what goes on your lawn and why. No mystery sprays, no scare tactics, and we will never call a program chemical-free when it is not.
The people on your lawn
You will get to know their names from your visit notes.
-
Marcus Hale
Owner
Started mowing Hilliard lawns out of one pickup in 2016. Still rides along on Mondays to check the route.
-

Licensed applicator, program lead
Runs the six-round program, calibrates the spreaders every week and writes most of the visit notes you will read.
-
Theo Whitaker
Mowing crew lead
Leads the Tuesday and Thursday routes. Has opinions about stripes and sharp blades, all of them correct.
-
Priya Nand
Office and scheduling
Answers the texts, moves the rain days and makes sure nobody's gate code gets lost.
Small habits, every visit
- Blades sharpened every week
- A dull blade tears grass tips, which turn brown and invite disease. Ours get sharpened every Friday.
- Spreaders calibrated weekly
- So the rate on your visit note is the rate that landed on your lawn.
- Quieter before 9 a.m.
- Battery trimmers and handheld blowers on early stops. The big mowers start after nine.
- Gates latched, photos taken
- Every visit ends with a photo of the closed gate and the finished lawn.
Our fertilizer and weed-control technicians hold Ohio commercial pesticide applicator licenses, which the state requires for anyone who applies weed control for hire.
