Gus Lindqvist painted for other companies for thirteen years. He saw the
same thing again and again: quotes on the back of a business card, crews
that changed every week, and paint that peeled in two winters because
nobody did the prep.
In 2011 he started Cutline with one rule: do the prep, cut the
lines by hand, and write everything down. The name comes from the cut
line, the clean edge where a wall meets the ceiling. It's the first thing
anyone notices in a room, and the hardest part to fake.
Today we're 11 painters, an office of two and a spray shop on the
east side. We still quote in writing within 48 hours, and Gus still does most
of the estimate visits himself.
