Langford & Wray Criminal Defense · Richmond

A small firm built around one idea

People charged with a crime deserve a lawyer who calls them back, tells them the truth, and prepares like the case is going to trial. We have run the firm that way since 2009.

Our story

Eleanor Langford spent nine years as a public defender. She saw how much a case changes when someone has time to read every page.

In 2009 she opened a one-room office near the Richmond courthouses with a phone that rang through to her cell at night. The first year, she took every call herself.

Marcus Wray joined in 2013 after six years as a prosecutor. He brought an inside view of how the state builds DUI and traffic cases. Daniela Ruiz and Arjun Mehta joined later, adding youth and bond-hearing work, Spanish-language service, and a records-first approach to fraud and drug cases.

We are still small on purpose. Four lawyers can know every file in the office, and every client can reach someone who knows theirs.

How we work

  1. I

    Answer the phone

The worst night of someone's life deserves a person on the line, not a voicemail box. Our intake line has been answered around the clock since the first year.

  2. II

Tell the truth about the odds

Clients make better choices with honest information. We explain the strengths and the risks of every option, including the ones you will not like.

  3. III

Prepare like it is going to trial

Prosecutors notice which lawyers are ready to try a case. That preparation is what opens doors to better outcomes, and it is never wasted.

  4. IV

    Put the fee in writing

Money stress makes a hard time worse. One flat fee, written down up front, with a payment plan if you need one.

  5. V

    Treat people with respect

A charge is not a verdict, and it is not who you are. We use your name, return your calls, and never talk down to your family.

  6. What we will not do

Promise a result, bill by the hour without warning, or hand your case to someone you have never met.
