Questions
Plain answers to the questions people ask us most. If yours is not here, call. Asking costs nothing.
Cost and fees
How much does it cost to hire you?
Nothing up front. We work on a contingency fee: a set percentage of the money we recover, written into your agreement before we start. If we do not recover money for you, you owe no fee.
What about case costs, like records and experts?
We advance those costs. Your agreement explains how they are repaid from a recovery, and what happens if there is none. We go over it line by line before you sign.
Is the case evaluation really free?
Yes. The call, the meeting and our honest view of your claim cost you nothing, and you do not have to hire us afterwards.
Deadlines and timing
How long do I have to file a claim in Ohio?
In general, Ohio gives you two years from the crash to file an injury lawsuit. Some claims have shorter notice rules, such as claims involving public agencies or your own insurance policy. Do not wait to find out which applies to you.
How long will my case take?
Many claims settle within a year, after your treatment is done and we know the full harm. Cases that go to court can take longer. We give you an honest estimate once we know the facts.
Should I wait until I finish treatment to call?
No. Call early. We can preserve evidence and deal with the insurers while you heal. We usually do not settle until we know how your recovery looks.
Insurance questions
The other driver's insurer wants a recorded statement. Should I give one?
Not before you talk to a lawyer. You do not have to give the other driver's insurer a recorded statement, and what you say can be used to cut your claim.
Ohio is not a no-fault state, right?
Correct. Ohio is an at-fault state. The driver who caused the crash, and their insurer, are responsible for the harm. Your own coverage can help when their insurance falls short.
Who pays my medical bills while the case is open?
Usually your health insurance or medical payments coverage, at first. They may ask to be paid back from a recovery. We negotiate those paybacks to protect what you take home.
Working with us
Will I talk to a lawyer or a case manager?
A lawyer. Each case has a lawyer who knows it and returns your calls. Lena and our staff help, but you always have a direct line to your lawyer.
Can you meet me at home or in the hospital?
Yes. We meet clients at home, in the hospital or in rehab, any day, by appointment.
Do you take cases outside Columbus?
We handle road injury cases across Central Ohio, including Franklin, Delaware, Licking, Fairfield, Pickaway, Madison and Union counties. Call us about cases elsewhere in Ohio.
Questions about one kind of crash?
Each crash page answers the questions we hear most about that situation.
