Technician sliding a server back into its rack after a backup check

Backup and Recovery

Backups we test by actually restoring files, plus a written plan for getting you working again after a bad day.

How it works

A backup you have never restored is a guess. So every month we pick real files, restore them, and note how long it took. If something fails, we fix it and tell you.

We follow a simple rule: at least three copies of important data, on two different kinds of storage, with one copy kept away from your office. That covers a dead server, a burst pipe and a ransomware attack.

Once a year we walk through a recovery test with you. We agree on how long you can be without each system, then check that the setup can actually meet it.

What's included

  • Nightly backups of servers, key computers and Microsoft 365 data
  • A copy stored off-site in Canadian data centres
  • Monthly test restores, logged in your report
  • A written recovery plan with clear priorities
  • Yearly recovery drill on Managed Plus
  • Alerts to our team when a backup fails, every time

Your first month

  1. Week 1

List of what holds important data and how it is backed up today

  2. Week 2

New backup jobs set up; first full copy taken off-site

  3. Week 3

First test restore, timed and written down

  4. Day 30

Draft recovery plan for you to review and sign off

The honest part

Recovery takes time. Restoring a whole server can take hours, not minutes. Your plan will show realistic times for each system so nobody is surprised on the day.

Questions

Where is our data stored?

Your off-site copies stay in Canadian data centres. We list the exact providers in your agreement.

Does Microsoft not already back up our email?

Microsoft keeps its service running, but it is not designed as a long-term backup of your data. A separate backup protects you from accidental deletions and account problems.
