About Hearth & Ledger

Founded by an owner who got burned.

In 2009 Everett Boone bought a Garner rental and hired a manager. The statements arrived with rounded-up repairs, a 'misc admin' line, and a vacancy fee — a fee for nothing happening. Hearth & Ledger, founded in 2014, is the company he couldn't find: one published fee schedule, repairs at cost, and a statement built to be audited.

The team

Four people own your outcome. By name.

No call centers, no ticket queues into the void. Every owner knows who runs their leasing, their maintenance, and their money — plus a bench of 40+ vetted, insured trade vendors across the Triangle.

Everett Boone

Founder & Broker-in-Charge

Everett bought his first Garner rental in 2009, got burned by a manager's surprise fees, and started Hearth & Ledger in 2014 to be the company he couldn't find. He still reads every owner statement format change personally.

Dana Whitfield, director of owner accounting, smiling with arms crossed in a dark blazer

Dana Whitfield

Director of Owner Accounting

Fifteen years in trust accounting. Dana owns the ledger: statements out by the 10th, invoices attached, deposits reconciled monthly. Her favorite sentence is 'check the attachment.'

Priya Raman, leasing director, smiling in a white blazer against a light background

Priya Raman

Leasing Director

Priya runs pricing, photography, and showings across the Triangle. Median 16 days to lease isn't luck — it's comps done properly and a phone that gets answered.

Mei-Lin Cho, maintenance and tenant experience manager, smiling with arms folded in a sky-blue shirt

Mei-Lin Cho

Maintenance & Tenant Experience Manager

Mei-Lin dispatches the 24/7 line and manages the vendor bench — 40+ vetted trades, zero markup. Tenants renew because maintenance actually happens; owners stay because it happens at cost.

House rules

Four principles, twelve years old.

  1. 01

The fee page is the whole fee page

If a charge isn't published, our agreement doesn't allow it. This sentence has been in every contract since 2014.

  2. 02

    Repairs are costs, not revenue

We don't own a maintenance company and never take vendor kickbacks. The invoice you see is the invoice we paid.

  3. 03

    Bad news travels fastest

A tenant giving notice, a roof quote, a missed rent — you hear it from us first, with the plan attached.

  4. 04

We'd rather lose the pitch than the trust

If self-managing or selling is your better answer, we say so in the proposal. Owners remember honesty longer than brochures.
