About us
A family storage business that prints the fine print.
Quailgate started as six rows of drive-up units in Chandler in 2009. Three sites later, it's still owned by the same family, and the office still answers its own phone.
How we got here
-
2009
Six rows in Chandler
Rafael and Lucia Ortega build 180 drive-up units on a lot behind their landscaping business. Lucia runs the office from a desk by the gate.
-
2014
The climate building
Renters keep asking for somewhere cool. A three-story climate building with two freight elevators goes up next to the drive-ups.
-
2016
Gilbert opens
A single-story indoor building, so nobody needs an elevator, plus a covered loading canopy for the summer.
-
2018
Dana takes over
Their daughter Dana, who grew up stocking boxes in the office, becomes owner. First change: every fee goes on the website.
-
2021
The RV & boat yard
Neighbors with HOA letters about their trailers ask for help. The Queen Creek yard opens with covered and enclosed spaces.
Four promises
What we hold ourselves to, written down.
- The price on the site is the price at the counter Every rate is shown with the admin fee and protection next to it. If the counter says a different number, the website wins.
- Rates hold for a year, and changes come in dollars Twelve months at your move-in rate, then one review a year at most, with 30 days' written notice.
- A person answers the phone Seven days a week, 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Not a call center: one of the four people below, or someone they trained.
- Clean, lit and checked every morning Someone walks every row and hallway before the office opens and writes down what needs fixing.
The people who answer the phone
Four of us run the three sites, with part-time help on weekends.
-
Dana Ortega
Owner
Grew up helping her parents run the Chandler office. Took over in 2018 and still answers the phone on Saturdays.
-
Marcus Lee
Manager, Chandler
Knows which 10×10 gets the morning shade. Ten years with Quailgate and the reason the carts are always where they belong.
-
Sonia Navarro
Manager, Gilbert
Handles business renters and their deliveries. Will tell you when a smaller unit would do.
-
Hank Bell
Yard lead, Queen Creek
A retired RV mechanic who keeps the yard's dump station, compressor and gate running.
Every morning, every site
The walk before the office opens
It takes about 40 minutes per site. Anything we find goes on a sheet in the office, and it's fixed or followed up by the end of the day.
- Gate opens and closes on a test code
- Every row and hallway light works
- No unlocked or overlocked doors we didn't expect
- Carts back at the building doors
- Hallways swept, no leaks after rain
- Dump station and air compressor working (Queen Creek)
