Overview
Your pickup is a work truck, a tow rig or both, and it runs the same kind of fuel, turbo and emissions systems a big truck does. Three of our bays are set up for diesel pickups, so they get the same diagnostic process, the same written estimate and the same rules about approval.
We see the common diesel pickup engine families every week. Cold mornings bring the hard starts: glow plugs, batteries, gelled fuel, a weak fuel pump. Towing season brings the turbo and cooling questions. And every diesel pickup needs fuel filters, oil and DEF on schedule if you want the expensive parts to last.
We are not a dealer, and we don't claim dealer status. We are a diesel shop that would rather fix it once and tell you straight what it will cost.
Call us about
- Hard starting on cold mornings, or a long crank before it fires
- Loss of power while towing, or a turbo that sounds different
- Water-in-fuel light, fuel filter service or a fuel pressure code
- DPF, DEF or EGR warnings and limp mode
- Coolant loss, overheating on grades, or an EGR cooler concern
Every job includes
- Same diagnostic process as our heavy-duty bays
- Written estimate before work past the diagnostic
- Fuel and DEF quality check on any no-start or emissions fault
- Service reminder by text when the next fuel filter is due
- Road test with a load when the complaint is towing-related
Engines we see every week
- Diesel pickups Cummins in Ram heavy-duty, Duramax in GM heavy-duty, Power Stroke in Ford Super Duty
- Class 8 and medium-duty Cummins, Detroit, PACCAR, Volvo and Mack, and International engines
Brand names describe the engines we work on. Crossmile is independent and not affiliated with, or authorized by, any of these makers.
Before the first hard freeze
Most winter no-starts are predictable. A quick fall check catches them while the truck still starts:
- Glow plug and grid heater test
- Battery load test, both batteries
- Fuel filter and water separator
- Winter fuel and additive advice
- Block heater cord and element
Fall cold-start check: $95, pickups
Typical prices
- Fuel filter service Primary and secondary where fitted, bleed and prime $135 to $260
- Oil service, diesel pickup Oil, filter and a visual inspection $145 to $220
- Glow plugs Set replacement; seized plugs can push the top end $450 to $1,200
- Turbocharger replacement New or remanufactured, by engine family $2,800 to $5,500
- Injector set By engine family; pump and lines extra if contaminated $3,800 to $7,500
Pickup labour is $145 per hour. Ranges are typical for common diesel pickup engines; your written estimate follows the diagnostic. Example figures for this demo.
Typical turnaround
- Fuel filter or oil service 1 to 2 hours, often while you wait
- Glow plugs Half a day to 2 days
- Turbo or injector job 1 to 3 days, depending on parts
Ranges, not promises. You get an update at every checkpoint, and straight away if anything changes.
Questions we hear
Will working on my truck void the factory warranty?
Using an independent shop for maintenance does not void a warranty by itself, as long as the work is done properly and recorded. Keep the invoices; we email a copy of every one.
Do you do performance tuning?
We don't sell tunes that disable or defeat emissions equipment. We'll gladly help with legal upgrades for towing, like gauges, cooling and transmission service.
