About this course

Trimming is where a heavy pot becomes a light one. It's also where most members lose pots, usually because of timing. This course teaches you to read leather hard by touch, hold a pot without it flying off, and carve a foot that belongs to the rest of the form.

You'll make

  • A bowl with a trimmed foot ring
  • A cylinder with a clean, flat base
  • A carved or faceted foot, if you want to try one

What you need

  • A few thrown pots at leather hard
  • A loop or ribbon trimming tool
  • A foam bat or a few coils of soft clay to hold the pot
