Ice maker | Quick fix
Ice maker repair
No ice, hollow cubes, a jammed dispenser or water leaking inside the freezer. Refrigerator ice makers, usually fixed in one visit.
What it's doing, and why
Ice makers stop for small reasons: a frozen fill tube, a failing water valve, an old filter, or the ice maker module itself. Most are fixed in under an hour. We work on refrigerator ice makers. We don't service commercial or stand-alone ice machines.

Repair it, or replace it?
A ice maker usually lasts 5 to 10 years for the ice maker module. Here's how we call it, and we say it out loud even when the answer costs us the job.
Repair it when
- Nearly always. The ice maker is one part, not the whole fridge
- The rest of the refrigerator cools well
- The fix is a valve, filter or module, which covers most calls
Replace it when
- You'd be replacing the same module for the third time. Turning it off and buying ice is a fair answer
- The refrigerator itself is near the end and needs a big repair too
On a few French-door models, the door ice maker keeps freezing up no matter which part is replaced. If yours is one of them, we'll say so before you spend a dollar.
Try these before you book
They take five minutes and sometimes save you the visit. If none of them help, we'll take it from there.
- 1 Check the ice maker's on/off arm or switch. It's easy to bump.
- 2 Replace the water filter if it's more than six months old.
- 3 Look behind the fridge for a kinked water line.
- 4 After any reset, wait 24 hours. New ice takes time.

All brands and exceptionsIce maker questions
Do you fix stand-alone or commercial ice machines?
No. We work on ice makers inside household refrigerators and freezers only.
Is it worth fixing an ice maker?
Usually. The part is affordable and the rest of the fridge keeps working either way. If yours keeps failing, we'll tell you it's fine to switch it off and buy a bag of ice.
