Our story
Started by someone who fixed the walls after.
Dana Whitlock spent ten years repairing siding, windows and wall cavities around Olympia. She kept opening walls that had been "treated" for mold: sprayed, painted over, and still wet, because nobody had fixed the leak.
She started Westvane in 2012 to do the job in the right order. Find the moisture, size the growth, remove what can't be cleaned, dry everything, and let someone else check the result. It is slower to explain on the phone. It is also why most of our work comes from home inspectors, agents and past clients.
How we work
Six rules we don't bend.
- Test only when it answers a question If you can see growth, a lab report rarely changes what needs to happen. We test when the source is hidden, after a job is finished, or when a sale needs paperwork.
- We never grade our own work Every remediation job we do is cleared by an independent assessor we don't employ. You can also pick your own.
- The moisture comes first Mold grows where water stays. If we can't name the moisture source, we aren't ready to quote removal.
- No scare words Mold is part of every home's outdoor air. We describe what we found, how big it is and what fixing it involves, in plain words.
- Written scope, real ranges You get a written scope with square feet, materials and a price range before any work. If the scope changes, the paperwork changes first.
- We say when you don't need us A few spots of mildew on bathroom caulk is a cleaning job. We will tell you that on the phone and save you the visit.
The team
The people in your house.
No subcontracted crews for mold work. The person who books your visit is in the same office as the person who writes your report.
- Dana Whitlock Owner, lead inspector Started Westvane in 2012 after a decade of building envelope repair. Writes every inspection report herself.
- Marcus Oyelaran Remediation crew lead Runs containment on every job and keeps the pressure logs. Will happily explain the air scrubber to your kids.
- June Halvorsen Inspection technician Thermal camera, moisture meters and crawl spaces. Grew up in a 1940s Olympia house with a very damp basement.
- Theo Lindqvist Remediation technician Attics and crawl spaces, the tight ones especially. Former finish carpenter, so he cares how the walls go back.
- Priya Venkataraman Office and scheduling Answers the phone, books visits and keeps real estate deadlines from slipping. Reads every report before it goes out.
Before you hire anyone
Four things to ask any mold company, including us.
Washington doesn't have a separate mold license, so these are the checks that matter. A good company answers all four without fuss.
- 1 A contractor registration number Look it up on the state's contractor lookup yourself. Ours is printed here on the real site.
- 2 A certificate of insurance Liability and workers' comp, sent straight from the insurer. Ask before anyone sets up containment.
- 3 The lab's name and accreditation You should be able to call the lab that reads your samples. We name ours on the real site.
- 4 Who does the clearance If the answer is "we do," ask why. On our jobs it's an independent assessor, and you can pick your own.
Where we work
Thurston County, Mason County and the south end of Pierce County.
Inspections usually within a week. Farther out than these? Call anyway: if we can't get there in reasonable time, we'll say so and suggest what to look for in someone closer.

Water coming in right now? Shut off the supply if you can and call a water damage company first. Mold work comes after things are dry.
