About us
A firm built at a kitchen table
We started in 2012 for one reason: families deserve a lawyer who explains every step, in the language they think in, without promising what only the government can decide.
Our story
Marisol Ibarra grew up in Pilsen translating letters from immigration offices for her parents. Some of those letters were good news. Some were mistakes made by a notario who had charged her family for help he had no right to give.
She opened this firm in 2012, two blocks from the Pink Line, to do the opposite: explain everything, charge one flat fee in writing, and tell families the truth about the wait. Erik Lindqvist joined in 2016 from a legal aid clinic, and Grace Adeyemi in 2021.
We only do family-based immigration. That focus is the point. When your case is the only kind of case we do, we notice the small things: a date that does not match, a child about to turn 21, a trip that was a week too long.
The firm in four numbers
- 2012 Founded in Pilsen, Chicago
- 3 Attorneys, every one licensed
- 2 Languages in the office every day
- 1 Business day to hear back from us
What we promise, and what we never will
We will
- Explain every step in plain English or Spanish, before it happens
- Tell you the honest range for how long things take, and when it changes
- Review your whole history before we file, so nothing surprises you at an interview
- Put your next deadline on our calendar, not only yours
- Say so when your case is not one we should take, and suggest who can help
We never
- Promise an approval, a visa or a date. Only the government decides
- File anything we believe is untrue, even when you ask
- Let anyone who is not a lawyer give you legal advice
- Add a charge you did not agree to in writing
In the neighborhood
Free talks, in English and Spanish
A few times a year we hold free question nights at neighborhood libraries and schools: citizenship basics, DACA renewal dates, and how to spot a notario. No sales pitch, and no one is asked for their status.
