Prices and quotes
How much does a new asphalt driveway cost in Edmonton?
Most driveways on existing gravel run $5.50 to $8 per square foot, and remove-and-replace runs $7 to $10.50. A 700 sq ft double driveway is usually $3,850 to $7,350 depending on the base. The minimum for paving is $3,800.
Why is there a minimum job?
A paving job needs a truck of hot asphalt, a roller, a trailer and a crew no matter how small it is. The minimum covers that. Small sealcoat and crack-fill jobs have much lower minimums because the equipment is lighter.
Do you charge for quotes?
No. Site visits and written quotes are free anywhere in our service area. Quotes are good for 60 days, unless asphalt prices from the plant change, which we note on the quote.
Do you take a deposit?
For paving, 10% when you sign, and the rest when the job is done and you've walked it. Nothing up front for sealcoating, crack filling or striping.

Weather and the season
Can we pave today?
Move the slider. These are the same rules our crew leads use.
9°C
48°F
-10°C5°C10°C30°C
- Paving Not today Below 10°C the mix cools before we can compact it.
- Sealcoating Not today It needs 10°C and rising to cure.
- Crack filling Go Cool and dry is ideal: cracks are open wide.
- Line striping Not today Traffic paint needs 10°C and rising.
- Pothole repair Go Hot-mix patching is fine.
A general guide, not a forecast. On the day, the crew lead checks the ground and the hourly forecast and makes the call.
When is paving season in Edmonton?
Usually mid-May to early October. Asphalt plants in the area open around late April or May and close in late October, and we need the ground warm and dry too.
What temperature do you need to pave or seal?
10°C and rising for paving and sealcoating, with sealcoating also needing 24 hours without rain. Crack filling and hot-mix patching can go down from about 5°C. We print these limits on every service page.
What happens if it rains on my date?
We move it. You get a text by 6 a.m. the day before with a new date. We never pave into a wet base or seal before rain to keep a schedule.
Can you pave in late October or November?
Only on a warm, dry stretch while the plants are still open, and only for jobs where the asphalt can be compacted before it cools. If the forecast says no, we book you for spring.
03
Sealcoating and care
How often should I sealcoat my driveway?
Every 2 to 3 years. Not every year. Too many coats build up and peel. We'll tell you when yours can wait.
When can I drive on new asphalt?
Give it 3 days for cars and longer in hot weather. For the first summer, don't turn the steering wheel while the car is stopped, and put a board under kickstands and trailer jacks.
When can I drive on a fresh sealcoat?
Walk on it after about 6 hours, drive after 24 to 48 hours depending on heat and humidity. We text you when it's ready.
Will my new driveway ever crack?
Every asphalt surface in Alberta gets some cracks eventually from frost and age. A good base, proper thickness, crack filling and sealing every 2 to 3 years slows it down a lot.

Trust and paperwork
Someone knocked offering leftover asphalt. Was that you?
No. We never sell from the truck or knock on doors. Real paving companies give written quotes with measured square feet, a business address and a phone that gets answered. Ask for all three.
Are you insured?
Yes: $5 million general liability. Commercial clients get a certificate of insurance and a WCB Alberta clearance letter before we start, and homeowners can ask for the same.
Do you guarantee your work?
Paving comes with a two-year workmanship warranty in writing: settling, loose edges or surface breaking up from our work, we fix. It doesn't cover damage from heavy equipment, fuel spills or frost heave in a base we were told not to rebuild.
Do you work for businesses and condo boards?
Yes. About a third of our work is commercial: plazas, condo lots, churches, schools and warehouses. See the commercial page for how we bid and phase it.
Before you hire anyone, ask for these three
- 01 A written quote with measured square feetNot a price shouted from the truck window.
- 02 A business address you can drive toAnd a phone number that gets answered next week.
- 03 Proof of insuranceA certificate, not a promise.
Ask us for all three. Then ask the other quotes for the same. About Tandem
