Career paths
What we hire for
Field — craft + supervision
Concrete carpenters, ironworkers, carpenters, equipment operators. Apprentice → journeyman → foreman → general foreman → superintendent. Strong path-to-supervision for craft workers.
Project management
Project engineer → assistant project manager → project manager → senior project manager → project executive. Most PEs come in with construction-management or engineering degrees.
Estimating + pre-construction
Estimator → senior estimator → chief estimator. Mid-career hires welcome from sub side or competing GCs. Estimating compensation is competitive with PM track.
Engineering + technical
Structural + MEP + civil engineers. Often construction-side complement to design-engineering training.
Corporate functions
Finance, HR, IT, marketing, legal, safety. Smaller teams; high-impact roles.
Internships + early career
Construction-management + engineering programs at Purdue, Rose-Hulman, Cincinnati, Cleveland State, Pittsburgh, IIT, Penn State, Detroit Mercy. Active intern program; conversion to full-time at 78%.
Compensation + benefits

Culture
What working here is like
Promote from within
82% of management hired from within. Senior leadership team avg tenure 18 years. Most VPs started as project engineers or junior estimators.
ESOP ownership
Employee Stock Ownership Plan since 1998. Currently 38% employee-owned. Long-tenured staff retire as significant owners. Real wealth-creation pathway.
Sane hours
We don’t do 70-hour weeks as the norm. Project crunches happen; sustained crunch is a planning failure. Most weeks are 45–55 hours.
Diverse + inclusive workplace
38% diverse workforce. 28% women in field roles (well above industry average). Active mentorship + sponsorship programs. Real DEI investment, not slogans.
Field-leadership culture
Senior leaders maintain field connection. Many CEOs of GCs lose touch with the field by mid-career; ours don’t. Field input shapes strategy.
Transparency + open-book
Quarterly all-hands financial review. Project performance shared cross-firm. ESOP annual valuation publicly explained. We treat employees like the owners they are.

Why people stay
“Joined as a project engineer 14 years ago. Now I run our healthcare practice. Meridian invested in my career — paid for my MBA, sent me to AGC leadership programs, gave me real responsibility early. The ESOP is a meaningful part of my retirement plan now.”

“Started as a concrete apprentice. Now superintendent on $80M+ projects. Meridian gave me trade school + foreman training + supervisor development. Path-from-craft-to-supervision is real here.”

“I came from a competing GC. The biggest difference: ESOP ownership changes how everyone thinks. People genuinely make decisions like the owners they are. Less politics, more ‘what’s right for the project.’”
