C-04 Capability

Self-Perform Work

Concrete, steel erection, rough carpentry and demolition, done by our own crews.

C-04.1 Overview

What you get

One hundred and twenty craft professionals wear Meridian colours. Self-performing the critical-path trades (structural concrete, tilt-up, steel erection, rough carpentry and selective demolition) means the schedule's spine belongs to us, not to the busiest subcontractor in the market. It is also where our estimating data and our safety culture come from.

  • Structural and site concrete: foundations, super-flat slabs, tilt-up panels
  • Steel erection including crane-rail and mezzanine systems
  • Rough carpentry, blocking and backing crews
  • Selective demolition and structural shoring
  • F-number testing and documentation on every industrial slab
  • Craft apprenticeship program run with Calder Technical College

C-04.2 How it runs

Five steps, each one in writing

  1. 01

    Priced from our own data

Production rates from our own crews feed the estimate, so the concrete and steel numbers come from work we have actually done.

  2. 02

    Crews on the critical path

Our foremen plan their own look-aheads with the superintendent. When the schedule tightens, we add a crew instead of sending an email.

  3. 03

    Checked twice

Embeds and anchor bolts are surveyed before every pour and again after. Industrial slabs are F-number tested and the results go to you.

  4. 04

    Safe by habit

A written pre-task plan for every crew, every morning, and stop-work authority for every worker on the site.

  5. 05

    Teaching the next crew

Apprentices from Calder Technical College work alongside journeymen on live projects, paid from their first day.

C-04.4 Questions

Asked before we start

More answers on bidding, cost and safety are on the FAQ page.

Do you self-perform on every project?

Where it helps the schedule or the price. On public work, when the rules require it, our crews bid sealed against outside trade partners and the bids are opened together.

Does self-perform cost more?

It should not. Our crews are priced from real production data, and on competitive work our numbers are tested against the market like anyone else's.

How do you check concrete quality?

Layout and embeds are surveyed twice, industrial slabs are F-number tested, and an independent testing lab breaks the cylinders. You get every report.
