Renata O. · Lakewood
From empty-bar squats to her first powerlifting meet in 20 months
“Bo never promised a number. He promised that if I showed up three times a week, the numbers would take care of themselves. They did — eventually.”
Renata joined Lakewood at 34 after a decade away from any kind of training. She started in Foundation class with an empty 15-kilo bar and, in her words, 'a lot of opinions about how embarrassing that felt.'
The first six months were unglamorous: two Foundation classes a week, one Forge, plenty of skipped weeks around work travel. Progress showed up as boring consistency — a little more weight most months, not every month.
At the one-year mark she moved to a meet-prep block with Bo Lindqvist. Eight months later she pulled 240 pounds at her first local push-pull meet — dead last in her flight, and by her account the proudest last place of her life.
