Mara Ellison
Classical reformer work, eccentric strength, teacher mentoring
“Strength you have to brace for isn't strength yet. When it's quiet, it's yours.”
Mara opened Quiet Form after a decade of watching boutique fitness get louder while bodies got more tired. Her studio is the argument in physical form: eight reformers, no playlists at Deep Form volume, and teachers who know every member's name and left hip.
She still teaches five days a week — Foundations included, on purpose. 'The beginner class is the most technical hour in the building,' she says. 'That's where the practice is actually built.' Her Deep Form on Wednesday mornings has a waitlist most weeks.
Off the mat: Restores mid-century chairs badly, and swims at Sunnyside pool until October each year.
