Questions

Questions, answered plainly

The things people ask us most, before and after their consultation. If yours is not here, call or email. A real person answers.

Consultations

What does a consultation cost?

Consultations are $150, in person or virtual. If you book surgery within 12 months, the fee comes off your surgery total.

What happens at a consultation?

About an hour with Dr. Merrow. We talk about your goals, review your health, examine the area, and explain options, risks and recovery. You leave with a written plan and quote within two business days.

Can I do my consultation by video?

Yes. A virtual consult is a great first step, especially if you live out of town. Before surgery, we always do an in-person exam.

Can I bring someone with me?

Please do. A partner, friend or family member often remembers questions you forget.

Safety and the surgeon

Is Dr. Merrow board certified?

Yes, in plastic surgery, after a full residency in plastic and reconstructive surgery. You can verify a surgeon's certification on the certifying board's public lookup.

Where is my surgery done?

Most surgeries happen in our private, accredited surgical suite in Cherry Creek. A few cases are done at a nearby hospital when that is safer.

Who gives the anesthesia?

A board-certified physician anesthesiologist cares for you during every surgery that needs sedation or general anesthesia.

Do I really have to stop smoking?

Yes. Nicotine in any form, including vapes, patches and gum, narrows blood vessels and raises the risk of wound problems. Stop at least six weeks before and after surgery.

Recovery

How long will I be off work?

It depends on the surgery. Eyelid surgery and liposuction often mean about a week. A tummy tuck or mommy makeover usually means three to four weeks. Each procedure page lists an honest timeline.

Will I be in pain?

Expect soreness, tightness and swelling. Most people need prescription pain medicine for a few days, then switch to over-the-counter options. We plan comfort with you before surgery.

Can I travel home after surgery?

Out-of-town patients usually stay in Denver for 5 to 10 days, depending on the procedure, so we can see you before you travel.

Cost and results

Does insurance pay for cosmetic surgery?

No. Cosmetic surgery is not covered. Some related procedures can be, like breast reduction or upper eyelid surgery that blocks vision, when your plan's rules are met.

Do you offer financing?

Yes. You can pay in full or apply for a medical payment plan through an outside lender. See our financing page for examples.

Can you guarantee my result?

No honest surgeon can. Bodies heal differently. We explain what is realistic for you, and we stay with you through your recovery.

What if I need a revision?

If a revision is needed for a surgical reason within the first year, Dr. Merrow's fee is waived. You cover the suite and anesthesia. We explain this policy in writing before surgery.
