Mommy makeover, explained
A mommy makeover is not one surgery. It is a plan that combines procedures, most often a tummy tuck with a breast lift or augmentation, sometimes with liposuction. We build it around what has changed for you after pregnancy.
Doing more in one surgery means one recovery instead of two, but that recovery is longer and you will need real help at home. We plan the weeks after surgery with you before we set a date.
What it can do
- Address belly skin, muscle separation and breast changes in one plan
- Save a second recovery and a second anesthesia
- Be staged into two surgeries if that is safer for you
What it cannot do
- Undo pregnancy completely. Scars and some changes remain
- Replace weight loss
- Be rushed. We only combine what is safe to combine
Is it right for me?
A general guide only. Dr. Merrow decides with you at your consultation, after an exam and a full health history.
Often a good fit if
- You are done having children
- You stopped breastfeeding at least six months ago
- Your weight has been steady for several months
Better to wait if
- You may want another pregnancy
- You do not yet have help at home for the first two weeks
- You smoke or use nicotine
Recovery, honestly
What the weeks after surgery look like
Typical timings for healthy patients. Everyone heals at their own pace, and we adjust your plan at each visit.
-
Days 1 to 5
The hardest part
You need an adult with you around the clock. Walk a little every few hours. Someone else handles lifting and young children.
-
Weeks 1 to 2
Drains and walks
Drains usually come out in this window. You move more each day and nap often.
-
Weeks 3 to 4
Desk work
Many people return to desk work. Driving resumes once you are off prescription pain medicine and can turn easily.
-
Weeks 6 to 8
Lifting and exercise
Dr. Merrow clears lifting children and exercise in steps.
-
Months 6 to 12
Final result
Swelling and breast settling take months. Scars fade over 12 to 18 months.
Risks, in plain words
Every surgery has risks, including the risks of anesthesia. These are the main ones for a mommy makeover. We go through each one with you, and how likely it is for you, at your consult.
- All the risks of each procedure in your plan
- Longer surgery time, which raises some risks, including blood clots
- Slow wound healing where incisions meet tension
- Fluid build-up, infection or bleeding
- Needing a touch-up or a second stage later
How we lower your risk
- A full health review at your pre-op visit, and a check with your own doctor when needed
- A board-certified anesthesiologist for the whole surgery
- Blood clot prevention for every patient, matched to your risk
- Nurse check-ins in the first days and a direct line to our team
- Written recovery instructions you can share with whoever is helping you

Common questions
More answers on our questions page, or call (303) 555-0148.
Is it safe to do everything at once?
For many healthy patients, yes, within time limits we set. If your plan would run too long, we split it into two surgeries a few months apart.
What if I want another baby later?
We suggest waiting. Pregnancy after a tummy tuck can stretch the repair and skin again. If you are unsure, a breast-only plan or waiting is often wiser.
How much help will I need?
Plan on an adult with you full time for at least the first week, and help with children and lifting for about six weeks.
