A design studio that builds
Sunpath started with one pool and one question: where does the sun actually fall in this yard?
Our story
Marisol Vega trained in landscape architecture and spent her first years drawing other people's backyards. In 2009 she designed and helped build a pool for her parents in south Austin. She sited it where the afternoon shade from their pecan tree would fall across the shallow end. It is still the most-used pool on their street.
She started Sunpath in 2011 with one crew and a simple rule: design before dirt. Every project still starts with a survey and a sun study, and every price is written down before we dig. Since then we have built more than 340 pools, spas and backyards across Austin and the Hill Country.
We are still small on purpose: two in-house build crews, one superintendent, and a design team that walks every site. We take on a limited number of new builds each season so the person who designed your pool is still answering your calls when it is filled.
Three rules we build by
-
Design before dirt
Nothing gets dug until you have signed off on a scaled site plan and a 3D design. We walk the sun across your yard first, so the pool lands where the light is.
-
One price, in writing
Your contract lists every line: shell, plumbing, finish, deck, equipment, permits, fence. Allowances are named. The rock clause is explained before you sign, not after we hit rock.
-
Safe before it's filled
The barrier is part of the design, not an afterthought. Fence, gates and door alarms are installed and inspected before water goes in.
The people on your project
You meet the designer at your consult and the superintendent before we dig. Neither changes halfway through.
-
Marisol Vega
Founder and lead designer
Trained in landscape architecture, built her first pool for her parents in 2009 and started Sunpath two years later. Draws every sun study herself.
-
Grant Okafor
Build superintendent
Runs both crews and every job site. Sends the Friday photo update and answers his phone.
-
Priya Raman
Permits and project coordinator
Knows the permit desks from Georgetown to Dripping Springs, and which HOAs want what.
-
Luis Ortega
Crew lead, steel and gunite
Fifteen years bending steel and shooting shells. Checks every bond wire before the inspector does.
-
Dana Whitfield
Remodel and outdoor living lead
Leads remodels, pergolas and kitchens. Will tell you when a refinish is all you need.
How we are set up
Our own crews do the work that decides whether a pool lasts: layout, excavation oversight, steel, plumbing and the shell. Licensed trade partners do electrical and gas, under permit.
Registered with each city we build in. Electrical work by licensed electricians, gas by licensed plumbers.
Where we build
Within about an hour of our south Austin studio, so the superintendent can be on every site every week.
